The foundation stone for the new building of Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha is to be laid in Al Thumama area on December 14, Sri Lankan ambassador A S P Liyanage announced at a press conference yesterday.
The site near F-Ring Road has been donated by the Government of Qatar. The stone laying ceremony would start at 9.30am.
The envoy recalled that the Stafford Sri Lankan School was started in 2001 in rented premises where it has been functioning since then. While thanking the Qatari authorities for their generosity in gifting land for building a school for the country’s Sri Lankan community, Liyanage said the new school will realise a longstanding dream.
The ambassador also informed that a 20-member board of directors headed by Roshan Balasoorya, a chartered accountant, has taken over the management of the Stafford School in July.
The new committee will ensure the speedy completion of the new state-of-the-art school complex, said the envoy who is also the patron of the lone educational institution of the Sri Lankan community in Qatar.
