Qatar Aeronautical College (QAC) has celebrated its 40th anniversary at a welcome dinner, hosting guests and participants of the fifth Global Aviation Training and TrainAir Plus Symposium that QAC is hosting in Doha until today.
The dinner was attended by HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti, International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) secretary-general Fang Liu and QAC director-general Sheikh Jabor bin Hamad al-Thani, in addition to officials and dignitaries from Qatar and ICAO as well as leading experts in the global aviation sector.
During the ceremony, Sheikh Jabor presented awards to distinguished existing and previous staff members of QAC in recognition of their service and achievements. 
The second day of the symposium began yesterday with a working breakfast, where the participants had the opportunity to explore the ICAO Training Portfolio and Training Needs Assessments Tool. It included highlights of ICAO courses, tools, and methodologies available to states and training organisations in support capacity building 
initiatives.
The first session of the day followed and was moderated by the CEO of Management and Excellence Corporation, William Cox. The session revolved around measuring training effectiveness, its impact and analysis based on the types of data collection, all resulting in decision making intelligence.
Session 2 featured ‘From Knowledge to Intelligence: The Role of Universities and the Industry’, with Paul Bates, head of Aviation and Logistics at the Australian University of Southern Queensland, as moderator. This session brought to light the efforts of educational institutions and their role within the industry in preparing aviation professionals for future demands.
‘How Does Aviation Data-Driven Decision-Making Benefit Training Outcomes’ was the title of the day’s third session, with moderator Marco Merens, chief of the Integrated Aviation Analysis Section at ICAO. The session focused on the fundamental concepts that comprise the data driven decision making and how the application of its principles and methods can prepare professionals for real-life situations on the field.
The last session of the day, titled ‘Innovative Educational Environments: Are You Ready?’, was moderated by Merens as well, where he initiated a dialogue on training portfolios, instruction training and the training business industry.
The three-day event will conclude at Qatar National Convention Centre today.
