HE the Speaker of the Advisory Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud stressed that the celebration of Qatar National Day this year is gaining new meaning considering the great achievements made by the State under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani as well as his good guidance and wise internal and external policies.
HE al-Mahmoud said in remarks to Qatar News Agency that the anniversary of the National Day has come as the country is proceeding on the path of development and construction, and is proceeding at a great and confident pace towards the future, relying on the perspicacity of its loyal people and their ability to create and innovate and meet the challenges with determination, precision steadfastness, self-confidence, self-determination and support for their leader.
HE the Speaker said: “On this glorious national occasion, we proudly recall the achievements and sacrifices of the Founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, who laid the foundations of our modern state and its development; preserved its sovereignty; safeguarded the dignity of its people and made Qatar a united, cohesive and independent State, feared by enemies, embracing brothers and friends and respectful of covenants, the right of neighbourhood and upholding values, ethics and principles.”
HE the Speaker stressed that this great legacy was one of the main reasons for our ability to overcome the challenges experienced by the country, most notably this unjust siege, with everything it embodies as blatant violation of international law, humanitarian norms and Islamic teachings.
HE al-Mahmoud said, “When we recall with pride all the glories of the past, we at the same time recall with pride all the successes of the present that have been achieved by God’s grace and through the wisdom, guidance and policies of our leadership. In a short period of time, our country has become one of the beacons of development and progress not only in the region but also throughout the world.
Suffice it to point out to the massive projects we can see now; some are completed and some are on track of completion within the framework of the National Development Strategy and the Qatar National Vision 2030 and in line with the plans drawn up and implemented with precision and discipline despite the unjust siege and the malicious campaigns.
“On this occasion, I reiterate the Advisory Council’s keenness on keeping abreast of the rapid pace of economic, political and social development in the country, through careful and thorough examination of the draft laws and legislation that are presented to the Council and making appropriate recommendations thereon, as well as through close and constructive co-operation with the honourable government,” HE al-Mahmoud added. HE the Speaker praised the motto chosen for this year’s National Day celebration, ‘As Long As It Was Proven By Our Deeds’, which is one of the poetic verses said by the Founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, and the accompanying slogan ‘Qatar Will Remain Free’.
In this regard, HE al-Mahmoud said that the slogan was in harmony with the speech of His Highness the Amir at the opening of the current 47th regular session of the Advisory Council, where His Highness focused on good morals and the need to adhere to them in all our actions; humility; sense of duty and responsibility and appreciation of the value of work, all of which are among the good deeds that the Founder pointed out in his poems.
HE the Advisory Council Speaker concluded his remarks calling on all the people of Qatar to take the celebrations of the National Day as opportunity to draw on the noble meanings and noble goals, for which the Founder had striven and sacrificed, an occasion to renew the pledge of allegiance to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and a motivation to achieve further development for the good of Qatar, its advancement and progress.
