The conference scientific committee also awarded Prof Davies, as the inaugural Sidra Medicine plenary lecturer and for her contribution to science, medicine and training of future scientists.
Workshop organiser and moderator Dr Bernice Lo who is a research investigator at Sidra Medicine said: “We are incredibly honoured to have amongst us a spectrum of distinguished, accomplished and inspiring female scientists and researchers. Our main aim for the Women in Science workshop was to empower and encourage young women, especially in Qatar, pursuing careers in science. Awarding Prof Davies was especially momentous as her contribution to science and genetics will have a key impact on future generations of young scientists.”
Moderator Kholoud al-Shafai said: “As a young researcher at Sidra Medicine, I was very excited to hear from our female trail-blazers. The workshop clearly showcased that despite the challenges and obstacles we face as women in science, success is absolutely possible. I was particularly interested in Prof Mariam al-Maadeed’s insights, as a Qatari woman leading the way in the field of science.”
