Aspire Academy’s third edition of the annual 3K and 6K cross-country runs featured prominently on Saturday with the participation of 16 student-athletes and over 100 recreational runners from schools, sports clubs, and sports enthusiasts across Qatar.
Renowned athletes in Qatar and the region, including Qatar’s triathlete, Abdulla al-Humaidi and Kuwaiti triathlete Jassim al-Ostath, also took part in the event. The cross-country run comes as part of Aspire Academy’s celebratory activities for Qatar National Day 2018. Stemming from its keenness to promote an active and healthy life-style, Aspire Academy organised this run for both genders, aged 12 years and above.
The winners from the 6K run were, from the men, Saeed Farhan al-Adaa, who finished the race in 17 minutes and 30 seconds. In the women’s event, Laila Salem clocked 32 minutes and 56 seconds.
As for the 3K run, Dery Youssef secured first place after finishing the race in 8 minutes and 56 seconds, whilst Natasha Cros clinched the first position for females as she clocked 11 minutes and 37 seconds.
The Qatari triathlete al-Humaidi described the race as an exceptional experience due to the natural terrain path at Aspire Park. While the Kuwaiti runner Jassim praised the overall excellent organisation of the event and expressed his excitement to participate in upcoming activities at Aspire.
Cross-country running is one of the disciplines that comes under the umbrella of athletics. It also allows individuals and families to race with their loved ones as well as professional athletes, which increases the spirit of competition.
The cross-country run was organised by the athletics department at Aspire Academy with a vision of providing an opportunity for its student-athletes to partake in a wide range of running competitions.
