Ooredoo has announced that customers will be able to enjoy “amazing offers”, using augmented reality via its app, making the customer experience “even more exciting and rewarding”.
Unlike virtual reality, where the user is immersed in an entirely made-up world, augmented reality is an interactive experience of a real-world environment enhanced, or augmented, with computer-generated perceptual information. This perceptual information is superimposed, or overlaid, on the world the user actually sees.
Perhaps the most commonly known applications of augmented reality today are Google Glass and heads-up displays in car windshields, but the technology is being rolled out across a number of industries including telecommunications.
Manar Khalifa al-Muraikhi, director PR and Corporate Communications at Ooredoo, said of the arrival: “We’re delighted to be able to offer customers yet another technological advance in our products and an additional way for them to enjoy the Internet even more, and we look forward to showing them what augmented reality can do. In the near future, our customers can expect to see it used for special offers and deals, and much more.”
Customers who do not yet have the Ooredoo app can download it from the Apple Store for iPhones and the Android store for Android phones.
