Chinese diplomats and academics have praised the Qatari government's success in overcoming the current Gulf crisis and the unjust siege imposed on the state. They hailed the efforts exerted by the country in infrastructure, industrial projects and self-sufficiency.
The diplomats and academics stressed that Qatar had dealt with the crisis with great professionalism and innovative initiatives that enabled it to overcome the ordeal in a very short period.
They further pointed that the people of Qatar made a good conscious decision by supporting their leadership, attributing that to the state's approach in investing in the human resource and reliance on young people, noting at the same time that this week will witness the signing of a co-operation agreement between Shanghai University of International Studies and Qatar University.
This came during a seminar held by the Center for Chinese-Arab Studies for Reform and Development at its headquarters in Shanghai, to mark the 30th anniversary of Qatar-China relations, on the geopolitical transformations in the Gulf region, the future of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), the objectives and challenges of Qatar National Vision 2030, Qatar-China bilateral relations, reform and openness in China and the "Belt and Road" initiative.
The participants pointed out that the China is a major partner of the Arab and Gulf region, especially the State of Qatar, through investment, supporting various industries and helping to meet the needs of the Qatari people in the areas of infrastructure, technological food industries, culture and education, pointing out that the Qatari potential is large and its infrastructure allows the implementation of large industrial and scientific zones.
They stressed that the GCC is required to resolve the current Gulf crisis to face the external dangers, especially as it was the only strong regional organisation after the decline of the Arab League's role and its weakness.
The participants stressed that the Gulf crisis is hampering the implementation of the Belt and Road initiative and the signing of the free trade agreement between China and the GCC as well as several joint infrastructure projects between the Gulf countries such as the Gulf train project, electrical linkage and other major projects that contribute to the implementation of the Chinese initiative and drive the development of the region.
They concluded that the countries of the region should consider rearranging the GCC from within to face the external dangers that surround the region, put aside brotherly differences and continue economic, political, social and development reform to give priority to common interests, renew trust between the parties and put an end to the political crisis.
They explained that the upcoming summit of this important regional organisation is an opportunity to resolve this crisis, which harms all parties and harms the interests of all Arab countries.
They added that the 2022 World Cup is a golden opportunity to solve the Gulf crisis and to participate in organising this football event, and to benefit from the momentum of the media and the great sporting mobility that will be witnessed by the world during this tournament, especially as this World Cup reflects the image of the Middle East.
