Minister of State for Energy Affairs HE Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi led Qatar’s last delegation to the meetings of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec), in the aftermath of Qatar withdrawing its membership in the organisation from 2019.
He took part in the 175th meeting of the Opec ministerial conference, which was held in Vienna on Thursday to discuss a number of developments related to the oil markets and production levels.
Al-Kaabi held a series of talks with Opec oil ministers on the sidelines of the meet. He had discussions with Kuwait’s oil minister Bakheet al-Rasheedi, Oman’s Muhamad bin Hamad al-Rumhi, Iraq’s Thamer al-Ghadban, Iran’s Bijan Zanganeh, and Malaysia’s economy minister Mohamed Azmin Ali. Discussions during the meetings covered bilateral ties and co-operation in the field of energy, as well as the challenges facing the oil industry in general and Opec in particular. He also held a meeting with the secretary-general of the Opec Muhamad Barkindo, during which he discussed Qatar’s decision to withdraw its membership of the organisation.
