Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani is getting panned on Twitter after claiming that he was the victim of a conspiracy because his tweet led followers to an anti-President Donald Trump site.
Trump’s lawyer, who also advises the president on cybersecurity, inadvertently created a hyperlink to a website that didn’t exist until a Web savvy anti-Trump activist spotted the gaffe and purchased that domain, which is G-20.in.
That person then posted a message on the newly created G-20.in site, which reads “Donald Trump is a traitor to our country”.
The site includes a link to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s sentencing memo regarding Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
Flynn, a retired US army lieutenant general and former insider in Trump’s circle, lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) during its investigation into the administration’s possible ties to election fraud.
He pleaded guilty in December to lying to the FBI about his contacts with the Russian ambassador to Washington.
Dozens of comments on Giuliani’s Twitter feed attempt to explain to the 74-year-old politico that by failing to put a space between a period he typed after “G-20” followed by the word “in”, he accidentally generated a link to a site hosted in India, where URL’s carry an “.in” suffix.
Instead of fixing the error, Giuliani blamed Twitter for conspiring against him and the president.
“Twitter allowed someone to invade my text with a disgusting anti-President message,” Giuliani typed almost a week after his gaffe.
“Don’t tell me they are not committed card-carrying anti-Trumpers,” he wrote.
On Wednesday, nearly a week after the former mayor posted his initial errant tweet, Twitter users bombarded @RudyGiuliani with constructive criticism and mockery.
“No one ‘invaded your text’ you buffoon,” tweeted @davidnett. 
“You fat-fingered your incoherent rambling and inadvertently typed a valid URL.
“Someone bought that URL & exercised their free speech in that location.
“You can fix it by deleting your tweet. Or keep whining like a baby. Whatever.”
Twitter user @mikedalena added: “Don’t tell him how it works. He needs to figure it out on his own so he learns. If we do everything for him it will just bolster his old white man entitlement.”
A user who tweets from @justkelly_ok tried to help.
“Nah dude. Twitter automatically creates links when there is a period before a valid top-level domain (such as.com or.in). 
“Then your tweet went viral and someone smart bought that domain to troll you,” she offered.
Twitter user @heytimmy offered a humorous metaphor for Giuliani’s tech troubles.
“Old Man shouts at Internet while VCR blinks 12:00 in background,” he wrote.
