Qatar National Broadband Network’s (QNBN) Networks Operating Centre (NOC) was formally launched by HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed
al-Sulaiti yesterday.
Dr Ahmed Salman al-Sulaiti, chief executive officer, QNBN, said that the formal launch of the NOC, which is taking care of the networking requirements of more than 3,000km of fibre optic broadband width across the country, would accelerate the communication
network activities.
The NOC, considered to be the main monitoring centre of the communication networks of almost all major ministries, government’s strategic institutions, entities and departments, would provide all kinds of networking assistance to their operations, particularly in case of any emergencies, it is understood.
The QNBN, a government initiative, has been established to build a unified communications network to avoid duplication in telecommunication infrastructure and ensure that only reasonable tariffs are charged by the country’s communications’ service providers. It would also ensure high standards in quality, safety and continuity.
The QNBN network coverage has reached different regions of the country to cover almost 95% of the area and 100% of the
populated areas, it was told.
Through the coverage, the company has been able to effectively meet the requirements of all customers in the country by connecting the fibre network to buildings concerned within 48 hours of receiving requests from the customers.
In support to the national economy, the QNBN has contributed to the growth of national income by 3 to 5% per annum, allowing all companies to benefit from the infrastructure that it has provided.
