The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) has organised a week of public events to celebrate its 10th anniversary, Qatar Museums (QM) has announced.
When MIA opened in 2008, it was the first of the major capital developments and flagship projects initiated by QM. Designed by renowned Chinese American architect IM Pei, MIA showcases Qatar’s world-class collections of Islamic art stretching over 1,400 years to the present day.
According to QM, the events will consist of movie screenings, curator tours and calligraphy and painting workshops, among other activities.
The IM Pei movie screening of Learning from Light started yesterday and will run until December 12 at the MIA Auditorium at 10.30am and 4pm daily (except Wednesday). Curator-led tours also kicked off yesterday and will continue until December 5 at 11am.
Conservation-led tours will start on December 6 and will run until December 10 at 11am while celebration activities at the MIA Library starts on December 8 from 10am to 4pm.
The Ottoman design workshop will take place on December 8 from 11am to 1pm and the Acrylic painting workshops start a day earlier and run until December 8 from 12 noon to 6pm.
The MIA architecture guided tour will take place on December 6 at 2.30pm while the guided tour on “Science in Art” starts today and another on December 10 at 2.30pm.
Meanwhile, residents and visitors will have the opportunity to take part in the permanent gallery tours on December 7-8 at 2.30pm and the weavers for children workshop on December 4-5 at 4.30pm. A 12-fold rosette workshop started yesterday and concludes today.
Paper recycling workshop, which kicked off yesterday, will conclude on December 5 at 4.30pm while the Diwani workshop for women will continue on December 5-6 and December 9-10 at 5pm.
MIA was designed by renowned Chinese American architect IM Pei.
