The Education Ministry will grant students leave during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi has announced.

The minister was speaking on the sidelines of an event on Wednesday to mark the launch of the countdown to hosting the World Cup on 21 November 2022.

HE al-Hammadi was taking part in a festival hosted by Yarmouk Independent Preparatory School For Boys to mark the occasion.

The festival - titled "Qatar's students are waiting for all Arab 2022 World Cup" - was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in co-operation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and the Qatar Stars League Foundation.

It was attended by a number of officials, artists, athletes, present and former players and professionals in the QNB Stars League, Qatar University and Aspire Zone.

Speaking on the occasion, the Education Minister pointed out that November 21 this year marks the start of the countdown to the Qatar World Cup which will begin on 21 November, 2022.

The minister described the 2022 World Cup as an exceptional event not only for Qatar but also for other Arab countries and the rest of the world.

He said that the festival raises awareness about the importance of the 2022 World Cup and the requirements for its success in the educational field and the community.

The Minister praised the contribution of this festival in creating the media momentum in support of the World Cup in the educational environment, especially as students represent a social sector that is influential and interactive.

He appreciated the role of school administrations in facilitating the participation of students in the activities of the festival and achieving its goals and objectives.

HE al-Hammadi stressed the readiness of the ministry to harness all its resources to make this tournament the best in the world of football, reflecting Qatar's leadership and excellence in organising international sporting events.

He called for concerted institutional and community efforts for the success of the World Cup, stressing that the 21 of November will be a milestone in the history of Qatar.

The Minister called for the organisation of this event annually with the participation of students of Qatar’s schools until the start of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

More than 30 schools and 400 students participated in the festival.
