Qatar women Aisha al-Suwaidi and Nasra Mahmoud stole the limelight on the third day of the 14th Arab Shooting Championships by winning four and three golds respectively yesterday.
At the Losail Shooting Range, 20-year-old Aisha first won the 50m rifle prone individual and team golds and later claimed the 10m air rifle individual and team golds.
Nasra also showed her calibre by winning the 10m air pistol individual and team golds. She also contributed in Qatar team’s triumph in the 25m pistol event.
Qatar’s Matara al-Aseiri claimed 50m rifle prone individual bronze and was part of the 10m air rifle gold medal-winning team.
In the men’s section, Qatar’s Ahmad al-Shammari won individual 25m pistol gold. Mohamed Tamimi claimed bronze for the hosts as he finished behind Saeed al-Hasemi of Oman.
Qatar team, comprising Mohamed al-Yafei, Ahmed al-Shammari and Riyad Rustom, also won a silver medal in the event.
Al Dana Saad al-Mubarak of Qatar, who won QOC’s female athlete of the year award on Sunday, won 25m pistol individual and team gold medals.
