Vodafone Qatar, Gold Sponsors of the fifth annual Information Security Conference for the Financial Sector organised by Qatar Central Bank (QCB), showcased the company’s expertise in security solutions and the Internet of Things (IoT).
This is the fourth consecutive year that Vodafone has taken part in what has become one of the most important events in the country. This year’s event was themed ‘Securing Digital Assets’ and focused on information security in Qatar, infrastructure improvements and solutions for all vital sectors related to information security.
In a keynote presentation titled “Security in the IoT Era”, Vodafone Qatar chief business officer Mahmud Awad gave an overview of how IoT was fuelling digital transformation not only in the banking and finance industry but also across all industries, and the importance of security in order to keep connected devices and people’s data safe in a constantly changing world.
Addressing the audience, Awad said: “Security is a key concern for organisations globally. Protecting assets, devices, networks, data and applications is an essential component of doing business. Vodafone Qatar is committed to provide organisations in Qatar with the latest innovative security products and services.”
Vodafone also showcased its various security solutions at the conference, including Mobile Asset Tracking and the enhanced DDoS mitigation solution, which was launched in May this year to protect businesses and governmental sectors’ networks from being attacked, the company said in a statement.
Distributed Denial of Service attacks or DDoS is an attempt to make an organisation’s online service (websites, servers, mails, online payments and data transfer) unavailable by overwhelming it with traffic from multiple sources. This downtime results, among others, in a loss of productivity, visitor traffic, e-commerce transactions, reputation and confidential data.  “Vodafone’s DDoS mitigation solution makes sure the customer network is protected from different levels of DDoS attacks, including the DDoS attacks specifically targeted at customer applications,” the statement notes.
Mobile Asset Tracking enables monitoring the status of the key assets out in the field to ensure that they are secure and are put to the best possible use at all times, and therefore reducing costs and increasing security. Vodafone’s Mobile Asset Tracking is an all-inclusive solution, with everything from tracking devices to wireless network, hosting and reporting tools, the statement adds.
