Mubarak Yousuf al-Rumaihi’s red-hot form continued at the Al Rayyan International Showjumping Championship Friday. The Qatari rider, who had won two events on Thursday, cruised to another victory on day two at the Qatar Equestrian Federation’s outdoor arena.
Al-Rumaihi once again teamed up with his 16-year-old gelding Vivaldi K, as the pair stormed to victory in the Table A, Against the clock 145cm speed class, which also served as the qualifying competition for the FEI World Cup.
Al-Rumaihi and Vivaldi K completed their round in 70 seconds, which was more than three seconds clear of rest of the field. Rashid Towaim al-Marri, came home second with Anyway II, while Cyrine Cherif of France prevented a podium sweep for Qatar, as she finished third with Gerlin VD Waterkant.
Qatar Equestrian Federation president Hamad bin Abdulrahman al-Attiyah praised al-Rumaih for his brilliant show and hoped that the rider will continue to improve.
“Mubarak is one of the most prominent Qatari riders and he had done well in the past too. He is hard working and has shown his talent in the previous tournaments also. If he continues to do well then he can become a part of the Qatar team in the future. I hope Mubarak will win many more events,” al-Attiyah said. The QEF chief was pleased with the success of Al Rayyan championship, and hoped that event will return to four star status after dropping down to two star.
In the 130cm class, Jaber Rashid al-Amri astride Canavaro De Muze secured a narrow win. The pair’s time of 47.28 seconds was just 0.20 better than runner-up Salman Mohammed al-Emadi and Eglantine Du Castelet. Saeed Nasser al-Qadi finished third with Daydreamer EC in 49.78.
The championship will concluded on Saturday with the Grand Prix, which will serve as one of the qualifying rounds of the Arab League for the 2018 World Cup. The total prize money for the Grand Prix is €12,000.
The two-star €60,000 competition, which was launched in 2014, is organised by the QEF in co-operation with Al Shaqab. Fifty six riders and 100 horses from Qatar, Canada, France, Jordan and Morocco are battling for the top honours.
The tournament comes less than a week after the end of the final round of the Global Champions Tour, which was staged at Al Shaqab.
