The workshop, attended by a number of international experts, will discuss intellectual property protection and how to benefit from the international experience in this field.
The workshop will also look into the legal aspects of this type of protection and review the international legal provisions in this context, through treaties with references to major sporting events, contests and other related topics.
Director-General of Stadia Interpol, Falah Abdullah al-Dosari said the fifth meeting of the Experts Group on Sports Legislation is being held in Doha under Interpol's Project Stadia, a Qatar-Interpol Collaborative Project, and as an extension of the preparatory efforts to host the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
He added that experts from several countries are taking part to support Qatar to make use of the lessons learned in this field, learn about the latest laws and legislation in the field of intellectual property and get acquainted on the achievements of Qatar in this area.
Al-Dosari said that sponsors of major sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup are keen on the success of these events and the preservation of rights.
The Interpol is also keen on drying up the sources of crimes such as money laundering, he said.
He added that the field of intellectual property protection is another legacy left by Project Stadia to improve the protection and security of major sporting events, pointing out that Project Stadia seeks to provide international experts with the opportunity to participate, discuss and find solutions to the major issues and challenges to ensure a more secure world.
Assistant head of the advisory unit of the security committee Lt Col Ali Abdullah al-Kuwari said that the workshop comes within the framework of efforts to develop the mechanisms and legislation for hosting the Qatar 2022 World Cup, in accordance with international standards and in order to achieve security and safety during the World Cup.
He stressed the importance of this workshop, which reflects Qatar's efforts in this field, especially as all bodies concerned with legislations have taken advanced measures in relation to the legislative field, praising the role played by the Council of Europe in supporting Qatar's efforts in reaching highest standards that guarantee successful hosting of the World Cup.
