Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) have signed a $5mn funding agreement to meet the humanitarian and medical needs of more than 680,000 beneficiaries in Yemen.
The agreement was signed by QFFD executive director for shared services Mansoor Abdullah al-Dehaimi and QRCS executive director Youssef Abdullah al-Sada.
The programme aims to improve the health conditions, as well as reduce morbidity and mortality rates, of vulnerable groups, including women, children, poor families, and displaced people.
QRCS noted that comprehensive primary health and malnutrition care will be provided in three overpopulated governorates (Taiz, Sanaa, and Al-Hudaydah), and the Khalifa Hospital in the Turbah town, Taiz, will be supported with personnel, equipment, supplies, maintenance, and training.
“Under its wise leadership, Qatar plays an effective role in helping the vulnerable around the world, standing by our brothers in Yemen, and supporting those in need, amid deteriorating conditions,” al-Dehaimi said,
He emphasised the importance of health projects, which have long-term developmental outcomes, saying such projects will be very beneficial for the Yemeni people, especially as there are widespread epidemics and lack of medications.
Al-Sada thanked QFFD for the generous support to QRCS' ongoing relief work in Yemen.
“With this money, we will be able to expand our intervention to take in more and more beneficiaries. Our ultimate goal is to alleviate their suffering in such a protracted ordeal, while respecting their dignity,” he said.
Commending the strategic partnership with QFFD, al-Sada sees it as a reflection of Qatar's unwavering support for the vulnerable, particularly in regional war zones like Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Libya.
“At the centre of these efforts is QRCS, in its internationally recognised capacity and auxiliary role to Qatar in its local and international humanitarian endeavors,” he noted.
