The Qatar men’s 3x3 basketball team have qualified for the 2019 World Cup, the Qatar Basketball Federation announced yesterday.
The development came about after Qatar achieved a world ranking of 17, the QBF said. The QBF will hold a celebration tonight to mark the occasion. The FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2019 is the leading 3x3 event for national teams and takes place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It will combine top-level sport, culture, music and entertainment, according to organisers.
The very best from around the world do battle in five different events: the men’s 3x3 tournament, the women’s 3x3 tournament, the Shoot-Out Contest (mixed), the Skills Contest (women) and last but not least the Dunk Contest (men).
There is increased interest in the 3x3 format worldwide due to its inclusion in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Qatar, it may be mentioned won the 2014 3x3 World Cup when it was held in Russia.
