His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and His Highness the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday sent cables of congratulations to President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika on the occasion of his country’s National Day. HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani also sent a cable of congratulations to Algeria’s Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia on the same occasion.

FM sends message
to Greek minister

Greece’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Development Yannis Dragasakis has received a written message from HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani dealing with bilateral relations. The message was handed over by Qatar’s ambassador in Greece Abdulaziz Ali al-Naama.

Population touches 2.74mn: ministry

Qatar’s population has reached an all-time high of 2.74mn at the end of October, according to figures released by the Ministry of Planning Development and Statistics (MDPS) yesterday. The exact figure is 2,743,982, an increase of 1% from the end of September and 2.8% from end of October 2017. The population of women nearing the 700,000-mark. There are 2,044,987 males and 698,945 females in Qatar as on October 31. 

Biles claims record 4th all-around world title 

Superstar Simone Biles made yet more gymnastics history in Doha yesterday when she became the first woman to win four individual all-around world titles. The American won despite uncharacteristic errors in two of the disciplines to claim her 12th world title.
