Huawei’s latest artificial intelligence (AI)-driven homeland security technologies and solutions took centre stage at Milipol Qatar 2018.
During the event, which concluded at Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre yesterday, Huawei launched its latest smart public safety solutions in Qatar in the presence of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani as well as HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.
Huawei showcased its latest Software Defined Camera, which is the “first AI camera in the CCTV industry”, able to provide on-demand real-time definitions according to the usage scenario, the company said in a statement. “This allows for it to quickly adapt to the changes of multiple scenarios – where in the past a single camera did a single smart analysis, now a variety of different intelligent analysis functions are implemented at the same time in the same device.”
Further, with the improvement of the camera’s own computing power, the intelligence becomes more precise via being hierarchical in nature, allowing the co-ordinated working between cameras and the cloud nodes. This also enables the continuous evolution of algorithms and applications on the camera evolved iteratively, with advanced features such as health state self-detection, self-perception and scene adaptive learning, which in all enables visual management of an entire network, the statement explains.
Huawei’s public safety solutions include the Video Cloud Policing Big Data Solution, an integrated AI analysis tool for public security customers. The solution enables intelligent crime investigation and prevention. It can analyse huge volumes of data to obtain valuable information on first-time visitors, frequent access statistics, movement patterns and suspicious activity. It provides a holographic profile of key personnel, background information and activity track dynamics. On a wider scale, it supports cross-regional and global information sharing, according to Huawei.
Charles Yang, president of Huawei Middle East, said: “AI is a powerful and versatile new tool with huge potential to drive the public safety sector. The technology can be applied to the protection of life and property, as well as to the promotion of modern governance. We are excited to launch our AI-driven public safety solutions here in Qatar, believing as we do that they will directly improve the quality of life of Qataris by creating a world with better city management, faster emergency response times, and more accurate identification and apprehension of criminals.
“We are proud to have been selected as Gold Sponsor of this important event, and look forward to continuing to support the government of Qatar in building a safe and secure environment for their people.”
Huawei’s AI portfolio includes its new Ascend series of AI chips – the world’s first AI IP and chip series designed for a full range of scenarios. The portfolio also includes new products and cloud services that are built on Ascend chip capabilities. “With its full-stack AI portfolio, Huawei aims to provide pervasive intelligence to help drive industry development and build a fully connected, intelligent world,” the statement adds.
