The National Campaign on Right to Education began yesterday at the national-level within the framework of co-operation between authorities concerned in Qatar and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), along with the ongoing efforts of the state to support and disseminate education to millions of children around the world.
Dr Hamda al-Sulaiti, secretary-general, Qatari National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, said that Qatar is one of the first countries to launch a national campaign for the right to education at this level, stressing that education contributes positively to the rapprochement and communication among cultures and civilisations and enhances common human values, human rights and the principles of truth, justice, peace and tolerance.
Dr al-Sulaiti was speaking at the launch ceremony of the international campaign for the right to education at the national level held yesterday in Doha. The event was also attended by National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Secretary-General Mariam bint Abdullah al-Attiyah, Unesco regional office director in Doha Dr Anna Paolini, and Education Above All Foundation Executive Director Fahd
Hamad al-Sulaiti.
Dr al-Sulaiti added that this is evidenced by the great achievement of the Education for All Foundation in providing education for 10mn children around the world. Qatar has pledged to provide education to 1mn children around the world
by 2021.
For her part, Unesco director Dr Paolini praised the support of Qatar for achieving the Education 2030 agenda. She expressed hope that the two sides would work to encourage the community to participate actively in this campaign to ensure that all of its members have the right to a good education.
Aisha al-Tawar al-Kuwari, chairperson of the Right to Education Campaign Committee, said that the campaign would continue until next April. “It will include several school events and educational lectures on the right to education, celebration of International Day of Science, besides participation in the Doha
