Qatar signs training pact with Interpol, Mississippi university

Qatar, represented by the Security Committee of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), signed a co-operation agreement with Interpol and the University of Southern Mississippi, on the sidelines of the second day of the 12th International Event for Homeland Security and Civil Defence in the Middle East (Milipol Qatar 2018).
Director-General of Stadia Interpol, Falah Abdullah al-Dosari, said that the agreement includes a six-item programme to train officials in charge of securing major events. Those who pass the programme will be awarded an international expert certificate in this field.
Al-Dosari added that the agreement was signed between Qatar and the international police organisation (Interpol) in co-operation with the University of Southern Mississippi, through its centre specialised in securing major events.
It addresses the security challenges associated with these events, and prepares cadres to secure sports facilities.
The Director of the Training and Rehabilitation Unit of the Security Committee for 2022 Major, Fahad Saeed al-Subaie, pointed out that the programme was developed specifically for Qatar, in co-operation with the University of Southern Mississippi and Interpol, but stressed that Qatar would welcome participants from other countries as well.
He said that Qatar is the first country to sign an agreement with Interpol to implement this programme. He added that the training will be carried out entirely in Qatar, and will be conducted by instructors from the US.
The Director of the National Centre for Security and Safety of Sports Spectator at the University of South Mississippi, Lou Marciani, thanked Qatar for its outstanding efforts at all levels, especially the security aspect of major events.
He said that the training programme agreed between Qatar, Interpol and the University of Southern Mississippi will meet the requirements of Qatar and respond to the needs related to securing the 2022 World Cup.
