Ooredoo on Thursday announced that customers can now enjoy eSIM technology on Qatar’s biggest mobile network with compatible devices available for purchase via the eShop and Ooredoo Shops.

eSIM is a revolutionary technology that allows a mobile phone to work without a physical SIM card and enables users to use both their private and business numbers at the same time and switch between them seamlessly without needing to physically swap SIM cards.

This technology will provide a whole new digital experience for customers in Qatar and the region.

Thanks to the launch, customers can request an eSIM in any Ooredoo Shop or on the eShop, and start using the technology on available compatible devices as soon as the manufacturer has updated their software. This is the only self-service digital eSIM feature available in Qatar and the region. At the time of purchase, customer will get a QR code, which can be requested over digital channels like SMS or email.

Ooredoo is also the only operator in the country offering eSIM for both post-paid and pre-paid customers via digital channels, according to a statement. To enjoy the benefits of eSIM, post–paid customers will pay a onetime activation fee of QR50 and pre–paid customers QR35.

Talking about the launch, Waleed al-Sayed, Ooredoo’s CEO commented: “Ooredoo is delighted to be the first to offer eSIM technology to our customers with a compatible device. eSIMs will help everyone seamlessly switch between their mobile accounts and connect faster than ever before. This technology has just launched and we look forward to investing further in it to help transform our customers’ digital experience at home or in the workplace with devices such as smart watches and other next-generation technology in the near future.”
