French ‘spiderman’ Alain Robert was arrested on Thursday after he free-climbed a 230-metre office tower in central London, adding to his portfolio of unaided ascents of many of the world's tallest buildings.
Robert, 56, took just under an hour to scale the side of the Salesforce Tower in London's business district, British media reported.
The City of London Police said officers closed nearby roads ‘due to a man free-climbing’ the tower, reopening the roads later Thursday afternoon.
‘We can confirm we have arrested a man aged 56 for causing a public nuisance,’ the police said on Twitter. ‘He is currently in police custody.’ Police Commander Karen Baxter said the climb had ‘a considerable impact on police, other emergency services and the local community.’ ‘While the incident has caused immense disruption to everyday business in the City of London, it also posed a significant level of risk to the safety of people in and around Heron Tower,’ Baxter said, using the Salesforce Tower's former name.
Robert has been arrested many times for his daring climbing stunts around the world over the past two decades.
