Vodafone Qatar is raising awareness, throughout the month, about the importance of the early detection of breast cancer among the community and its employees.
The initiative comes as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a worldwide campaign observed annually in October involving thousands of organisations, seeking to highlight the importance of breast awareness, education and research.
Under Vodafone Qatar’s corporate social responsibility umbrella, the company has used its social media channels to raise awareness about early detection and the importance of regular screenings, a press statement notes.
A presentation was also delivered at the company’s office by Qatar Cancer Society (QCS), during which employees were given an overview of the signs and symptoms to look for, what preventative measures can be taken, the importance of early detection and where to go for screenings and medical help.
This is the second year in a row that leading specialists in the field from QCS have addressed Vodafone Qatar’s employees, which has proven “highly successful”, the company has said.
“Spreading awareness about breast cancer is our responsibility as a company that puts its people’s well-being at the heart of everything we do. Every year in October, we stress the importance of early detection and are committed to continue raising the awareness,” Vodafone Qatar noted.
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in Qatar, accounting for 31% of cancer cases in women, the statement adds. According to the Qatar Cancer Registry, the risk of women in the population developing breast cancer is 56 per 100,000. However, both women and men can be affected by breast cancer.
