The Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (Gord) signed a number of collaboration agreements and Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with local, regional and international organisations to establish and implement sustainability in Qatar and across the region at the opening ceremony of the Sustainability Summit 2018 yesterday.
Gord also announced Sustainability Awards as well as the Eco Champions’ Awards for this year. Gord founding chairman Dr Yousef Alhorr and the United Nations Environment’s West Asia Office director Sami Dimassi signed an MoU.
Another MoU was signed between the Gord and Al Taadhod Group. Dr Alhorr, and Al Taadhod Group CEO Sheikh Faisal bin Jassim al-Thani were the signatories.
Gord also signed an agreement with Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) for launching energy efficiency label. Dr Alhorr and QNRF executive director Dr Abdul Sattar al-Taie signed the MoU.
The opening ceremony of the Sustainability Summit 2018 also featured the presenting of the Sustainability Awards to many local and international companies and organisations for their outstanding leadership and commitment to adopting the best sustainability  practices in the design, construction and operation of different types of developments. This includes new construction, existing buildings, renovations and interior design projects. Several leading Qatari institutions were honoured as “Eco Champions” for their exceptional support for Gord in crafting a green legacy in Qatar. 
This year’s Sustainability Awards winners are: Al Bayt Stadium – Al Khor City for GSAS Construction Management class A*; Al Wakrah Stadium for GSAS Construction Management class A*; Sendian Tower for GSAS Design & Build 5 Stars; Al-Sayer Headquarter for GSAS Operations Gold and Naufar for Design & Build 3 Stars and Construction Management class B.
This year’s Eco Champions’ Awards were presented to: Qatar General Organisation for Standardisation; Ashghal – Public Works Authority;  Barwa Real Estate Company; Internal Security Force – Lekhwiya and Qatar Rail.
