The third consultative meeting on stadium safety and security licensing and certification, organised by Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) in co-operation with the Iinterpol's Project Stadia, has started.
The three-day meeting aims to review the best practices for the issuance of stadium licensing and certification under the Project Stadia and to identify the mechanisms for achieving security and safety.
The meeting is attended by a team of international experts in security and safety measures and stadium licensing and certification to ensure its readiness to host major sporting events.
Chief of the Advisory Unit in the Security Committee at SC, Brigadier Ibrahim Khalil al-Muhannadi, said that the meeting supports efforts of Qatar, which seeks to establish a mechanism for licensing and certification of stadiums that will host the World Cup 2022 in accordance with international standards.
He stressed that the meeting is important because it reflects the efforts of Qatar in this regard, especially that the companies that build up the stadiums have followed the best standards included in the Green Guide, which is the main reference for the construction of the sports stadiums of the country.
He pointed out that the meeting is being organised in co-operation with the Iinterpol's Project Stadia, the strategic partner of the SC, through which many programmes, workshops and conferences have been implemented, which helped to boost the experience of those implementing security plans and related legislation.
For his part, Project Stadia's senior manager, Falah al-Dosari, said this is the third meeting on issuing safety and security licensing and certification for stadiums to host the World Cup 2022, which is a guide and a standard for the issuance of stadium safety and security licensing and certification that benefits all countries of the world.
He added that the Project Stadia seeks to issue international standards for stadium safety and security licensing and certification used in major sports tournaments so that all countries of the world can benefit from it in future, affirming the organisation's trust in Qatar and its achievements on the ground regarding the establishment of sports stadiums, in which security and safety requirements are met.
The three-day meeting is scheduled to discuss the timetable for the construction of all facilities for hosting the 2022 World Cup and delivering on time, the stadiums accreditation and certification scheme for completed facilities, the maintenance of stadiums, tools and operational responsibilities in the post-construction phase and how to choose the action plan for the 2022 World Cup.
Project Stadia, which was established by Interpol in 2012 and funded by Qatar, aims to assist Interpol member-countries in planning and implementing policing and security preparations for major sporting events.
The ten-ear programme is contributing to policing and security arrangements for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
