Vietnam is keen to attract more Qatari tourists, ambassador Nguyen Dinh Thao has told Gulf Times. There is also serious consideration to exempt Qatari citizens from the need to apply for a visa to visit Vietnam, he explained.
"We receive millions of tourists from around the world every year and we need to further promote Vietnam in Qatar," said the envoy.
He pointed out that Qatar Airways has daily direct flights to north and south Vietnam and is set to launch new direct flights soon to the central region of Vietnam which would further ease travel from Qatar.
"Besides, such direct flights make Qatar an important link to Vietnam tourism as many transit flights go through Doha to Vietnam from different countries," he observed.
In the meantime, Vietnam is looking for higher level exchange of visits between the leaderships of Qatar and Vietnam, and preparations are going on in this regard. Such visits are expected to result in signing several agreements between the two friendly countries in various fields of cooperation for the best of both of them.
In addition, by the first quarter of next year a top level delegation from Vietnam's ministry of labour, invalids and social affairs will visit Qatar to meet their counterparts at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce and the related entities and set up joint commissions to further enhance co-operation in areas of mutual interest.
The envoy said this year Vietnam is marking the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relationships with Qatar and there has been a lineup of cultural and arts events to mark the occasion.
There will be a "Vietnam Landscapes" exhibition at Katara - the Culture Village by the end of this month, in addition to other scheduled events to further promote Vietnam in Qatar.
"In Vietnam, senior officials are working to introduce more tourist-friendly services and facilities that suit people from this region such as halal restaurants and more health facilities, as our country welcomes and respects the diversity and different preferences," he added.
