President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Prospero de Vera 3rd as chairman of the Commission on Higher Education (Ched).
De Vera, who had sought more subsidy for higher education, will serve until July 21, 2022.
He replaced Patricia Licuanan.
De Vera was a commissioner of the agency from Sept 13, 2016 and served as its officer-in-charge since January 24 this year.
He shepherded the formulation of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act 10931, or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act of 2017, and the fast-tracking of its implementation, Ched Officer-in-Charge Executive Director Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro said in a statement on Monday.
De Vera was the University of the Philippines’ vice president for public affairs, from 2011 to 2016.
He obtained his Bachelor of Arts, major in History and Doctorate on Public Administration from UP.
He was a Senior Fulbright Visiting Professor/Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland in 2000 to 2001.
He also specialised in Higher Education administration at the Rossier School of Education of the University of Southern California (USC), as a Fulbright Hays Visiting Scholar.
Yesterday, Malacanang also released the appointment letters of Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddy Boy” Locsin Jr and Social Welfare Secretary Rolando Bautista.
Both appointment letters were signed by Duterte yesterday.
Locsin replaced Alan Peter Cayetano, who will be running in next year’s mid-term elections.
