The Advisory Council Speaker HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud participated in the opening session of the 203rd session of the Governing Council of 139th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) that began Monday.

The opening session discussed a number of issues, including proposals for the election of the president of the 139th General Assembly, the financial situation of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the draft programme and budget for 2019, in addition to the report of IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong on the activities of the IPU since the 202nd session of the Governing Council.
Issues related to the membership of the IPU 2017 and 2021 as well as amendments to the statute and rules of the IPU and the elections of the executive committee were also discussed.
The meeting was attended by members of the Advisory Council and permanent representative of the Qatar to the UN in Geneva Ali Khalfan al-Mansouri.

The  Advisory Council Speaker HE Ahmed  bin  Abdullah  bin  Zaid  al-Mahmoud met separately with Duarte  Pacheco, chair of the Twelve Plus  Group, European countries, Australia and Canada and head of the  Portuguese delegation; Jacob Mudenda,  president  of  the  African   Group and Zimbabwe parliament  speaker and Wesley Simina, president of the Asia-Pacific Group and  Micronesia  parliament  speaker,   on the sidelines of the meetings  of 139th General Assembly of the  Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The  meetings  discussed  relations   between Qatar and the Twelve Plus  Group, European countries, Australia  and Canada, the African Group and  the Asia-Pacific Group and ways to  support, develop and strengthen such  relations, in addition to discussing the  most important topics on the agenda  of the 139th IPU General Assembly.
