Weather- Rain

There is a chance of rain, which may turn thundery at times, in some areas as cloudy conditions are expected to intensify gradually in the country on October 17 and 18, the Qatar Met department tweeted yesterday.

The weather office has also said the season locally known as Wasmi will begin today and last for 52 days. The season is named so because it is marked by rainfall that helps in the growth of some local plants, such as Helianthemum and Geranium, according to a report.
Rainfall at the beginning of the Wasmi season is usually an indicator of a good rainy season, according to the report.
The Met department’s climate records show that the maximum temperature in Doha decreases gradually to below 35C during this season, while the minimum drops to about 20C. Overall, mild temperatures are experienced during the day and relatively cooler conditions prevail at night, especially under the influence of northwesterly winds.
The report also cautions that flu and other seasonal diseases are common during this transitional period. As a result, experts recommend taking flu vaccination, staying at home for 24 hours after recovery from fever and washing hands regularly. Also, people – particularly the elderly, children and pregnant women - should avoid contact with those who are ailing.
Meanwhile, the maximum temperature expected today is 36C in Al Khor and Abu Samra, followed by 35C in Doha and Dukhan, and 34C in Wakrah and Mesaieed, and 33C in Ruwais.
Yesterday, the maximum temperature was 38C in Abu Samra, while in Doha it was 35C.
