HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi has said that Qatar National Vision 2030 is a future strategy for development and an essential element of sustainability.
It aims to boost development in Qatar by balancing economic growth with human and natural resources.
The minister was speaking at the opening of the 20th Russian Agricultural Industries Exhibition (Golden Autumn 2018) organised by the Russian Ministry of Agriculture in Moscow on Wednesday.
The event ends tomorrow.
Al-Rumaihi noted that sustainability is a matter of concern for all in Qatar, noting that the government has a prominent role to play in promoting sustainability through systems, policies and economic incentives, as well as supporting others in terms of awareness in the community.
Qatar believes national food security is a key concern and has therefore set up specialised companies for agricultural, livestock and fish production in order to achieve some level of self-sufficiency, the minister said.
The food security of Qatar is part of food security in its Arab, regional and international surrounding.
The Minister noted that one of the most important achievements of humankind in the last century was the production of sufficient food to meet the needs of the world’s population through international will, technical and financial capabilities, effective mechanisms, direct and serious follow-up and investment in food security and agricultural and rural development, because of the abundance of natural, human and even economic resources enjoyed by many geographical regions in the world.
Al-Rumaihi thanked the government of the Russian Federation for organising the exhibition, which is the largest economic exhibition in the field of agriculture and industry, and a global platform for constructive dialogue among producers of agricultural materials and representatives of bodies, governments, credit departments and industry experts.
He participated in a ministerial dialogue session on the sidelines of the Russian Golden Autumn Exhibition, which dealt with the most attractive areas for investment in agriculture sector and ways of co-operation in the field of agro-industrial complex.
The minister also met with a number of participating ministers of agriculture and discussed with them ways to enhance co-operation between Qatar and their countries in agricultural fields.
