Qatar underlined that the proposals it has submitted for the Francophone Programmes course for the period 2019-2022 indicate that the State will continue its efforts to promote Francophone values.
Qatar also praised the efforts of the Francophone Network in preventing violent extremism that can lead to terrorism.
Addressing the Ministerial Conference of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, held in the Armenia capital of Yerevan, HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, Qatar’s representative to the conference, highlighted the slogan of the conference “Living together in solidarity, shared humanistic values, and respect for diversity: a source of peace and prosperity in La Francophonie”, saying that these values are an integral part of the common heritage of la Francophonie, based on enrichment and respect for multiculturalism and promotion of the values of peace, tolerance, solidarity, participation and respect for human beings.
Dr al-Kuwari said that Qatar is committed to co-existence and to the values of la Francophonie, for which it has been tirelessly encouraging since its accession to the International Organisation of la Francophonie in 2012.
He noted that the number of French speakers in Qatar currently exceeds 200,000 people, with the continuous increasing in the number of schools that teach the French language.
There is also the French-language Oryx FM in Qatar, in parallel with the “Francophone Cultural Days” organised by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in partnership with the Francophone countries in Doha in March every year.
The event has become a rich cultural occasion rich with many cultural activities.
Dr al-Kuwari stressed that the respect for human rights is an absolute priority for Qatar, and the international organisations recognise the progress made by Qatar in guaranteeing the rights of workers.
