Primary Health Care Corporation’s (PHCC) Workforce Development and Training Directorate (WFDT)  in collaboration with the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (CU-SSPPS), has launched the Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Training Programme. 
This is a first and unique service to be introduced in the region and the Middle East.
PHCC’s WFDT Directorate assistant executive director Layla al-Jasmi, welcomed guests, including PHCC managing director Dr Mariam Abdulmalik and other senior officials, including pharmacists from CU-SSPPS and PHCC participating in the training programme.
The exercise has been established to support the vision for a highly motivated and skilled healthcare workforce, with the development of healthcare professionals to lead service improvement and enhanced services, through the dedicated Qatari and long-term workforce, including healthcare leadership. PHCC has developed a comprehensive Learning and Development Strategy for the next five years, aiming for a sustainable healthcare workplace development plans and reinforcing professional learning, development and education for all healthcare professionals across PHCC, including our pharmacists.  
The clinical pharmacists in PHCC are fundamental to the success of the Family Medicine Model of Care across PHCC health centres by participating in activities that optimise medication management and safety, greatly contributing to improvement of the health outcomes of our patients, families and communities.
PHCC-WFDT is advocating the importance of developing a highly skilled pharmacy workforce and this planned development will ensure that the pharmacists are equipped with the right skills, experience and knowledge for better health, better care and better value.
Clinical experts and distinguished educators in the field of clinical pharmacy from CU-SSPPS shared their experiences and expertise during the event. 
Dr Kari Franson, associate dean for Professional Education, CU-SSPPS provided an overview and introduction to the training programme and facilitated an exciting session on counselling skills. Dr Sarah Scoular, assistant professor, Department of Clinical Pharmacy; director, Pharmacy Care Learning Centre, CU-SSPPS shared interesting insights during the session on communication skills.
