Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla expressed thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for providing humanitarian assistance to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami that hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.

This came during his meeting with the delegation of the international search and rescue team of Lekhwiya, in the presence of Qatar's ambassador to Indonesia Ahmed bin Jassim al-Hamar.

The ambassador expressed deep regret over the loss of life and destruction of property caused by the earthquake.

He stressed that Qatar stands by the people and the Government of Indonesia, pointing out that Qatar continues to send aid and relief to those affected in Sulawesi.

The ambassador pointed out that Qatar Red Crescent Society delegation is in Palu to provide assistance to those affected, adding that Qatar Charity is planning to provide assistance there.

A C17 aircraft of the Amiri Air Force arrived in Balikpapan on Sunday, carrying 48 tonnes of Qatari aid which included medical supplies, first aid, and tents.
