His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Argentinian President Mauricio Macri held a session of official talks at the Presidential Palace in Buenos Aires yesterday.
At the beginning of the session, President Macri welcomed His Highness the Amir on his second visit to Argentina, praising the friendly and growing relations between the two countries, hoping that the Amir’s visit will contribute to further co-operation.
On his part, His Highness the Amir reaffirmed what was stated by the Argentinian president in relation to the strong and solid relations between the two countries, adding that the two countries will continue to work for further co-operation in other fields, expressing his confidence that the visit will further enhance that.
The talks focused on means of developing bilateral relations and areas of co-operation in economy, investment and sports, as well as exchanging experiences in education, research, sports, agriculture and environment.
Issues of common concern were also discussed. The talks were attended by members of the official delegation accompanying His Highness the Amir.
From the Argentine side, it was attended by a number of ministers.
His Highness the Amir and the Argentinian President later witnessed the signing of an agreement and memorandums of understanding between the governments of the two countries.
They witnessed the signing of an agreement on the abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, private and official passports between the two countries; a memorandum of understanding aimed at consolidating and encouraging co-operation in education and science; and a memorandum of understanding between Qatar’s Ministry of Culture and Sports and the General Secretariat of Sport of Argentina to enhance possibilities and opportunities for sports co-operation between the two countries, using the Argentine expertise in this field.
They also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the exemption of Qatari nationals from visa; and a memorandum of understanding for co-operation between the Ministry of Municipality and Environment of Qatar and the Ministry of Production and Labour of the Argentine Republic aimed at establishing consultations and co-operation in agriculture, livestock, fisheries and agricultural sectors in the mutual interest of the two countries.
The signing ceremony was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying the Amir.
From the Argentine side, it was attended by a number of ministers.
Earlier, the Amir and the Argentinian president held a bilateral meeting at the Presidential Palace.
The meeting discussed ways to strengthen relations and the prospects for consolidating co-operation in various fields, especially in economy, investment, trade, education and sports.
They also exchanged views on the latest developments on the regional and international arenas.
Upon his arrival at the Presidential Palace, His Highness the Amir was accorded an official reception.
His Highness the Amir attended a luncheon banquet hosted by President Macri in honour of the Qatari delegation at the Presidential Palace museum in Buenos Aires yesterday. President Macri’s wife Juliana Awada, Vice-President Gabriela Michetti and a number of ministers and senior officials were also present.
Welcoming the Amir on his second visit to Argentina, the president praised the level of co-operation saying Argentina’s experience in food security can help Qatar to the same extent that Argentina can benefit from Qatar’s experience in the field of energy, pointing out that his country is experiencing difficult economic conditions. 
He pointed to Qatar’s ability to organise successful FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, wishing his team success in qualifying for the championship.
On his part, His Highness the Amir thanked the president and the Argentine people for their warm welcome and hospitality, adding that Qatar-Argentina relations have been spanning for more than 40 years and have been remarkably growing over the past two years, especially after the mutual visits, pointing out that this visit aimed at advancing bilateral relations.
Commenting on what the president said about his country’s difficult conditions, the Amir said that all nations are going through difficult stages, including the State of Qatar, which is undergoing regional challenges, but thanks to Allah and the steadfastness and strength of society in Qatar and friends, Qatar has become stronger and has also become more self-reliant than ever, expressing the hope that Argentina will overcome this difficult economic conditions under the leadership of the president.
