Qatar and Peru are moving forward to boost bilateral relations and exploring ways to develop co-operation in various fields, especially in economy, trade, investment, education and tourism.
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani held discussions with Peru’s President Martin Vizcarra in this regard at the Presidential Palace in Lima Wednesday, official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
The Amir arrived in Peru from Ecuador, where he started a four-state Latin American tour which is also taking him to Paraguay and Argentina.
His Highness the Amir and President Vizcarra also witnessed the signing of a number of agreements between the two governments concerning the cancellation of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports and special passports, as well as the institutional co-operation between the ministries of foreign affairs and interior.

Amir receives guard of honour

During the talks the Amir and the Peru president also discussed the most important regional and international issues of common interest and exchanged their views, particularly the current Gulf crisis. 
The Peruvian president affirmed the principle of respect for the sovereignty of states, praising in this regard the mediation of the Amir of Kuwait, and the US mediation to resolve the crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means. 
The signing ceremony and discussions were attended by members of the official delegation accompanying the Amir and a number of Peruvian ministers. Earlier, upon arrival at the Presidential Palace, His Highness the Amir was accorded an official reception.
The Amir also received the key of the city of Lima from the City Mayor Luis Castaneda Lossio, as an honorary guest of Peru and an expression of the friendly relations and co-operation between the two countries.
This came during a ceremony Wednesday in the municipality building, in the presence of a number of senior officials in Peru.
The Amir and the Mayor of Lima held a meeting during which they reviewed the friendly relations between the two countries and ways to develop them.
The meeting and the ceremony were attended by members of the official delegation accompanying the Amir. 
Later in the day, the Amir left Lima, following a two-day state visit, heading to Paraguay. He was seen off upon departure from the Callao air base by Peru’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hugo de Zela, Commander-in-Chief of the Air Base Major General Javier Ramirez, Qatar’s ambassador to Peru Ali bin Hamad al-Sulaiti, ambassador of Peru to Qatar Carlos Velasco , as well as members of the Qatar embassy in Lima.
The Amir sent a cable to President Vizcarra, expressing deep thanks and appreciation for the hospitality and honour accorded to him and the accompanying delegation during the visit in which they exchanged views on issues of common interest and means of strengthening and promoting the friendly relations and co-operation for the benefit of the two peoples. 
His Highness the Amir wished President Vizcarra the best of health and happiness, and the friendly people of Peru further progress and prosperity.
