The country's population rose by more than 6% at the end of September as compared to the previous month, according to figures released by the Ministry of Development Planning & Statistics (MDPS) Tuesday.

The population at the end of last month was 2,718,000, while in August it was 2,562,000, an increase of 156,000.
The latest figure is the second highest of 2018, the highest being the population recorded at the end of May when there were 2,731,910 people in the country.
In the three successive months between June 1 and August 31, the population dropped as a large number of people, mainly expatriates, were away from the country due to the summer holidays.
Sources said the population would grow further in the next few months if the usual trend seen during the October-December period continued this year as well.
