His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani was presented with the National Order of Merit by Ecuador President Lenin Moreno at the Presidential "Carondelet Palace" in Quito on Monday evening.
The Ecuador president said that the Order of Merit is the highest award to be presented to heads of state, and it is a tribute to the good relations of friendship and co-operation between the two countries, which he described as fruitful and not new.
He said that the Ecuadorian government seeks to strengthen the bonds of the strategic relations between the two countries, expressing aspiration to expand them in the future, especially that the doors of Ecuador are open to Qatari partners.


The president paid tribute to Qatar, saying that it is a model for the states that are fighting for a more equitable world based on rights and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.
For his part, His Highness the Amir thanked the president for the honour which shows the strong relations and mutual trust between the two countries, expressing ambition to develop and promote them in various fields.
The honouring was attended by Their Excellencies members of the accompanying official delegation.
On the Ecuadorian side, it was attended by a number of the ministers and senior officials.
