Vodafone Qatar’s senior leaders visited the Supreme Committee for Legacy and Delivery’s (SC) ‘Legacy Pavilion’ at the Al Bidda Tower and discussed areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration, it was announced.
Led by Vodafone Qatar CEO Sheikh Hamad Abdulla Jassim al-Thani, along with COO Diego Camberos and chief human resource officer Khames al-Naimi, the delegation were received by the SC’s tournament affairs assistant secretary general Nasser al-Khater to the pavilion – an interactive sporting and World Cup museum.
In a press statement, Vodafone Qatar said the team was given an overview of the tournament’s key features, including its compact nature, along with other interactive exhibits, highlighting the passion for football in Qatar and the region and the tournament’s impressive legacy plans.
The visit is the latest in an ongoing programme organised by the SC to build excitement ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar by engaging the country’s biggest and most important organisations and highlighting potential opportunities for partnership.
During the visit, the Vodafone Qatar delegation also highlighted the company’s expertise in a range of fields, including the Internet of Things and smart stadia.
“In an increasingly digital world, football enthusiasts have different expectations of what makes an engaging fan experience,” said Sheikh Hamad Abdulla. “As a digital-first company, we understand very well the role that technology will play in 2022 and the transformative potential of communications technology such as 5G and IoT innovations for major events like the FIFA World Cup.”
“In doing so, we are building on a track record of success as technology partner to the SC. Most recently, together we welcomed more than 70,000 fans at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, enabling them to enjoy all the action and high-speed connections in a unique setting,” he noted.
Vodafone Qatar is ideally placed to support the SC by building on the progress and momentum achieved to date in terms of its network infrastructure.
The business recently announced the switching on of its first live 5G network in a bid to build Gigabit Qatar – a nation where people will enjoy ultra-fast connection speeds crossing one gigabit per second on the move, at home and at work.
