Ooredoo Myanmar has recently handed over three Primary Healthcare Centres in Kayin State to the Ministry of Health and Sports, a move that aims to support better health services in rural and peri-urban areas across Myanmar, focusing on maternal, newborn, and early child health.
The health centres are located in the villages of Naw Phar Do, Naung Kyan, and Wae Kayin in Kayin State’s Hpa-an Township, Hpa-an District. Government officials and representatives from the Ministry of Health and Sports, the United Nations Office for Project Services (Unops), and Ooredoo Myanmar CEO Vikram Sinha and his team were present.
The Primary Healthcare Centre at Naw Phar Do Village will provide access to quality healthcare services to over 2,000 people from five villages. The centre in Wae Kayin Village will cater to over 3,000 people from eight villages, while Naung Kyan will help 2,000 people from six villages.
Sinha said: “Ooredoo’s fully-funded Primary Healthcare Centres will be established across Myanmar to fulfil our commitment to improving healthcare for the people, especially mothers and their children.
“The less fortunate living in these communities will now have access to quality healthcare, which will help in reducing maternal and early childhood mortality rates and the spread of infectious disease. Healthy mothers and children will lead happier and healthier lives as we all strive to build strong and healthy families and communities in a growing and developing Myanmar.”
Ooredoo Myanmar provided $3.1mn worth of funds for the construction of 21 Primary Healthcare Centres across Myanmar, in partnership with Unops.
Nearby communities will benefit from the following services: existing emergency obstetric care for safe delivery room, decrease infant mortality rate, essential newborn care, and post-natal care, as well as increased health awareness, better referral system and community volunteers, and decent shelter for midwives and public health specialists.
