Gorkha Welfare Society (GWS) recently organised an event ‘Mother Seminar’ to raise funds for Human Welfare Ashram (HWA) Nepal. Ramjee Adhikari, Chairperson of HWA, spoke about stress management, art of happiness, personality development, leadership, and positive thinking at the event. The event was attended by over two hundred people including Nepali entrepreneurs, intellectuals, journalists and representatives residing in Doha.
Adhikari urged the audience to assist his organisation in rescuing people from streets and helping them provide a better lifestyle. “Obviously nobody lives on the streets by choice. So at a time when there are voices being raised for animal rights, we have to wonder why homeless people are still ignored. There are many who actively advocate a quality life for animals but those unfortunate ones who live on the streets seem to slip many priority lists. Surely, they deserve to live with dignity too. It’s not only a question of taking people off the streets but making a constructive environment that they do not land up there in the first place. It is a tricky scenario because there are those who are caught in vicious cycles that need to be systematically worked upon. Human dignity is clearly a fragile thing. In absence of certain factors, it’s easily smothered,” Adhikari said.
Uttam Gurung, Tek Prasad Gotame, Kamal Ghimire, Dhanraj Gurung, Omraj Gurung and Preeti Ghale pledged to pay a sum of QR160 every month to sponsor a child during the event.
HWA is headquartered in Hetauda, sub-metropolitan city in the Makwanpur District of Narayani Zone of southern Nepal and has eleven offices across the country. It is successfully serving over 500 poor and homeless people. The organisation’s aim is to rescue both physically and mentally disabled people from the streets and to render them with proper care, medical treatment and other basic facilities. The event was chaired by Rakesh Shrestha, President GWS and co-ordinated by Ramji Khatri.     – Text and photos by Usha Wagle Gautam
