HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani recently felicitated Mohamed Ashraf, chairman and managing director of Safa Water Co, for his success in the manufacture and distribution of Safa ‘pure drinking water’ and increasing production to cope with the demand after the imposition of the blockade on June 5, 2017.

Some 45 owners of manufacturing facilities were honoured at the event. “I am happy that I could serve and support the country in a better way during the blockade. As an expatriate, I am thankful to the Qatar government and all the authorities for their support to run a business in Qatar, especially during the blockade,” said Ashraf, who hails from Pavaratty (Puthumanassery) in Thrissur district of the southern Indian state of Kerala.

“Even though we had enough water, we faced difficulties in bring packing materials such as bottles, caps etc, as they were being imported from the blockading countries,” he said in a statement, noting that they then procured all packing materials from other countries by air.

Thanking customers for their support, Ashraf said he, along with Abdul Rehman Ansari and other partners, have started a factory for bottles and caps.
