A journalist was shot dead as he was leaving his home in Mexico, his employer said. Mario Gomez was attacked by two armed men at the door to his home in the municipality of Yajalon in the southern state of Chiapas, the El Heraldo de Chiapas newspaper reported on Friday.

Gomez was the eleventh journalist to be killed in Mexico this year. Last year, the number was 13, making the country one of the most dangerous places in the world for members of the press.
Mexico is grappling with a wave of violence, linked to drug cartels and crime syndicates that cost more than 29,000 lives last year.
