Al Sailiya twice came from behind to win 4-2 against hosts Al Ahli in Week 6 of the QNB Stars League yesterday.
Goals for the home side came through Majdi Siddiq (68th minute), Abdulqadir Adam (82nd), Abdulkareem al-Ali (87th) and Rachid Tiberkanine (92nd).
Al Ahli’s both strikes came from Meshaal Abdulla in the 54th and 74th minutes. On the balance of play, a draw may have been a fairer result as Al Ahli were not rewarded for their endeavour.
In spite of Al Ahli’s half chances, it was Al Sailiya who came closest to breaking the deadlock deep into the first half, with Abdulkareem firing narrowly wide from distance.
The game had a completely different narrative in the second half, starting with Meshaal running onto a through ball and sending his half volley past the stranded keeper. Al Sailiya got back on level terms within 10 minutes following a spectacular free-kick by Majdi that bent around the wall and into the far corner.
It did not take long for Al Ahli to get their noses in front again with, Mohsine Moutaouli sending another through ball in to Meshaal who dispatched his second of the evening. The real turning point came in the 82nd minute when Al Sailiya were awarded a penalty, despite the protests from the visiting side, which Abdulqadir stepped up to bring the scores level.
With the clock ticking down Abdulkareem drove towards the goal and unleashed a powerful shot from distance that took a ricochet past the unfortunate opposition goalkeeper.
The moment of the night was saved until injury time when Abdulqadir fed Tiberkanine on the edge of the area, with the Moroccan teeing the ball up on his right foot before striking a beautiful volley to seal all three points.
In the second match of the day, Umm Salal defeated Al Kharaitiyat 2-1, thanks to two goals from Yannick Sagbo.
Mohamed Razzaq gave Al Kharaitiyat a fifth-minute lead, but Sagbo’s efforts in the 20th and 24th minutes sealed three points for Umm Salal.
