The Ambassador of Nigeria to Qatar, Abdullahi Wase, died in Doha on Friday. Wase’s death was announced in a statement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Tope Elias-Fatile, in the Nigerian capital Abuja Saturday.

According to Nigerian media outlets, Fatile said Wase, a non-career ambassador from Plateau State, died on Friday night after battling an undisclosed illness.
“The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, received the news of his death with shock and prayed that God grant his family and the nation the fortitude to bear the great loss,” the statement said.
