The Doha Film Institute Cinema (DFI Cinema) will screen the highly-rated and award-winning mystery thriller, Searching (US/2018), directed by Aneesh Chaganty, as part of its ‘Contemporary Releases’, today and tomorrow at the Museum of Islamic Art Auditorium.
The exclusive screening comes ahead of the film’s official theatrical release in the region, offering Qatari residents the opportunity to watch it before it screens at commercial cinemas region-wide from September 27.
“Our Contemporary Releases aim to bring a selection of the latest films that are acclaimed internationally and regionally, and provide local audiences with a taste of the best in cinema today,” DFI CEO Fatma al-Remaihi said in a statement yesterday.
“Searching has been highly rated and will delight lovers of mysteries with its innovative narrative that delivers a truly hyper-modern thriller,” she noted.
Winner of the Audience Award and Alfred P Sloan Feature Film Prize at Sundance Film Festival 2018, Searching is the story of a desperate father, who breaks into his missing 16-year-old daughter’s laptop to look for clues to find her.
The film is told via technology devices used every day to communicate, as the father tries to trace his daughter’s digital footprints before she disappears forever.
Chaganty’s two-minute short film, Seeds, became an internet sensation after garnering 1mn YouTube views in 24 hours.
He is a recipient of the prestigious Future of Storytelling Fellowship.
Rated PG 15, the film, in English, will be screened with Arabic subtitles, today at 6pm and 9pm and tomorrow at 3pm, 6pm and 9pm.
