More than 60 nurse leaders representing most healthcare sectors care across Doha have participated in a panel discussion organised by Doha Clinic Hospital along with Allegheny International, a leading organisation in the field of global health management.
The discussion, held under the patronage of Doha Clinic Hospital vice-chairman Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, focused on the importance of nursing planning and documentation in Doha.
The symposium’s goal was to develop an action plan for moving forward on the collection and use of nursing data standards at Doha Clinic Hospital, a press statement noted.
Guest speaker Dr Rohit Agrawal, chief clinical officer at Allegheny International Services, discussed the importance and means of improving patient’s safety and service quality in healthcare through improved documentation.
The seminar discussed the value of efforts being made to improve patient safety and one efficient practice to achieve this goal is maintaining excellent documentation. For example, maintaining an accurate and a detailed health record for each patient, which includes pertinent health information, medical history, medications taken, treatment administered and procedures performed, including accurate dates and times.
Various types of medical speciality related documentation were discussed for the many clinics available at Doha Clinic Hospital.
Better documentation at each stage of patient care leads to improved quality of care and optimised health goals while maintaining their safety. The clinical practice group identified the need for a how-to guide for nurses on using outcomes data to inform clinical practice at the point of care.
This programme’s purpose is to review the nature of nursing documentation across all media and how it reflects the provision of safe, quality, effective and evidence-based care at all touch points.
A further aim is to enhance nurses’ knowledge about what constitutes CPD and to reveal how this steers personal career aspirations towards success.
