Qatar’s Abdulla al-Tamimi stormed into the quarter-finals of the China Open squash tournament with a swift victory over Switzerland’s Nicholas Mueller in Shanghai yesterday.
Al-Tamimi, who had defeated India’s Pal Singh Sandhu in the first round on Wednesday, took just 31 minutes to post a 13-11, 11-3, 11-win over the eighth-seeded Swiss.
In the quarter-final today, al-Tamimi will clash with fourth seeded Paul Coll of New Zealand, who defeated Scotland’s Alan Clyne 11-7, 11-5, 11-0.
Al-Tamimi, who won the Malaysian Open recently but bowed out at the quarter-final stage at the Asian Games, is unseeded in the China Open.
The $120,000 tournament runs until September 9.
