Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte arrived in Jordan on Wednesday for a four-day visit, becoming the first Philippine leader to visit the kingdom.
He arrived in the capital Amman after visiting Israel, continuing a tour aimed at renewing ties with the two countries and checking up on Filipinos in the two countries.
On Thursday, he is scheduled to meet with King Abdullah.
Duterte will also attend a business forum and hold a meeting with the Filipino community in Jordan, which he previously said is estimated at 48,000.
According to an International Labour Organisation report in 2017, there are approximately 315,000 registered migrant workers in Jordan, with 5% of them from the Philippines, coming in the third place after Egypt and Bangladesh.
In 2012, the Philippines lifted a several-year ban preventing its citizens from working in Jordan after the two countries signed a deal to protect the workers and give them better salaries.
